At Saint John Payne Catholic School, our PSHE and RSHE curriculum supports the growth and development of the whole person. Rooted in Gospel values and the teachings of the Catholic Church, our curriculum seeks to enable every young person to flourish academically, spiritually, morally, socially and emotionally.
PSHE and RSHE are delivered through a dedicated, timetabled lesson for all students. Every Friday, Period 4 is allocated to PSHE and RSHE across all key stages, ensuring that students receive a structured and progressive curriculum throughout their time at Saint John Payne Catholic School.
The programme supports students in developing the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to make informed decisions, build healthy relationships, safeguard their wellbeing and prepare for adult life.
Our Catholic Vision
As a Catholic school, our approach to Relationships, Sex and Health Education is guided by the teachings of the Catholic Church, the Bishops of England and Wales' guidance on Catholic Relationships and Sex Education, the Catholic Education Service Model RSHE Curriculum and Department for Education statutory guidance.
We affirm that every person is created in the image and likeness of God and possesses inherent dignity and worth. Our curriculum helps students to understand this dignity within the context of family life, friendships, relationships, vocation and service to others.
Our PSHE and RSHE curriculum reflects the school's mission to develop young people who recognise their God-given dignity, live out Gospel values and contribute positively to the Common Good.
What Does Catholic RSHE Look Like at Saint John Payne?
Our RSHE programme is faithful to the Church's vision of the human person, supports parents and carers as the first educators of their children, promotes healthy and respectful relationships, encourages the development of virtues and is delivered in an age-appropriate manner.
Ten Ten: Life to the Full
Saint John Payne Catholic School delivers its RSHE curriculum through Ten Ten's Life to the Full Secondary programme. Lessons are delivered during our weekly Friday
Period 4 curriculum time. Through engaging videos, discussion activities, reflection opportunities and student workbooks, students are encouraged to explore important themes in a respectful, age-appropriate and faith-filled environment.
PSHE at Saint John Payne
The wider PSHE curriculum equips students with the knowledge and skills required for modern life and reflects statutory guidance from the Department for Education. Students explore physical and mental health, safeguarding, healthy lifestyles, financial education, citizenship, careers, online safety, diversity and preparation for adulthood.
EC Publishing
To complement our Catholic RSHE provision and ensure full coverage of current statutory guidance, Saint John Payne Catholic School utilises carefully selected resources from EC Publishing.
These resources support the delivery of key PSHE themes including mental health, safeguarding, online safety, careers, citizenship, relationships, financial education and preparation for life in modern Britain. All materials are reviewed and adapted where necessary to ensure that they are delivered in a manner consistent with the mission, values and Catholic ethos of Saint John Payne Catholic School.
By combining Ten Ten's Catholic RSHE programme with high-quality PSHE resources from EC Publishing, we provide a curriculum that is both faithful to Catholic teaching and responsive to the challenges and opportunities facing young people today.
